Biography:

Dr. Payam Afzali is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMFS) and University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor within the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He is currently the OMFS chief of service and residency program at Highland Hospital/AHS.  He earned his dental degree at Columbia University, followed by graduating from both medical school and OMFS residency at UCLA.   He subsequently pursued his subspecialty interests and completed postgraduate fellowships in both pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery in West Virginia, as well as head and neck microvascular surgery in the United Kingdom.  Dr. Afzali is most passionate about volunteering in under-resourced areas.  He has had the great fortune to participate in over 30 surgical and medical humanitarian trips globally.  Dr. Afzali's clinical and research interests include global health, pediatric craniofacial and cleft surgery, trauma surgery, and oncology.
