Biography:
Dr. Sampeter Odera is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon who has spent nearly a decade immersed in the world of academics at UCSF. He is enthusiastic about joining the Kaiser Hospital System with a passion for patient care that extends to every aspect of oral surgery practice. Dr. Odera brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role.
He graduated from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2008 and the UC San Francisco School of Medicine in 2012. His journey has been one of continuous learning and growth. He completed his residency at UCSF in 2014 and a fellowship at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia in 2015, focussing on orthognathic, temporomandibular joint surgery and sleep surgery.
Beyond the confines of academia and the operating room, his dedication to patient care goes hand in hand with his love for teaching. Dr. Odera finds joy in teaching and as an examiner for the specialty. He is excited to share his expertise with the next generation of professionals and has cultivated a deep appreciation for the importance of mentorship in the surgical field.
In 2018, Dr. Odera was recognized for his excellence in surgical leadership, innovation, research, and patient care, becoming a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His commitment to advancing the field is further evident in his completion of a Howard Hughes Research Fellowship. He has been a recipient of multiple clinical and teaching awards. In 2021 he was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon for his outstanding contributions to the art, science, and literature of surgery and dentistry. In 2022, in recognition for provision of exceptional patient care and ability to empathize with patients Dr. Odera received an award in recognition as the center’s Outstanding Clinician.
Outside of the surgical realm, Dr. Odera is actively involved in youth soccer, bringing the same passion and dedication to the field as he does to his practice of medicine. His interests extend to photography, cooking, wilderness navigation, international travel, art history, running, and cycling.
